La Maison Blanche was probably built in the mid 1800’s and was originally a grain store used in connection with the canal. It was converted into a house during the 1930’s. We are situated on the edge of the medieval quarter of Malestroit, on the banks of the Nantes-Brest canal where it is joined by the River Oust flowing over a spectacular weir. We enjoy close proximity to all local amenities. When we bought it, the house was known locally as ‘La Maison Blanche’, as a result of the plaque on the outside of the front garden wall which tells of ‘Ermengarde - La Dame Blanche’. We chose to keep the name in line with local tradition and have named our guest rooms after the characters in the story - ‘Alain de Malestroit’, ‘Ermengarde’ & ‘Feval’.
